The Annihilation of Coherence

note: this is one of my oldest poems and one of my least favorite creations. I put it up here to measure and compare my work from 2018 to now.
What do people have to prove?
Nowadays to look a certain way
The world today has a new groove
But I’m afraid it’s far from good
I implore us to make sense
Do we want to annihilate our very significance?
And be see-through containers?
Being used to caress my brain with opinions
But now feeling bland and dumb
I’m kind of unique
And I want it to stay that way
But I feel like everyone’s snickering
And then my reputation’s put at stake
Half the time all I want to know is why
We are all so dead inside
Trying to keep our feelings clandestine
To make some acquaintances
But will we really show how we feel?
I’m awestruck at how much we lie
Straight through our teeth
Maybe we’ll win a prize
On how to be counterfeit
With respect to our personalities
