Escapril day 1: theme- vision of the future

inspired by "The Labyrinth Song" by Asaf Avidan

oh beatrice

explore the new horizons of the world

and then come home.

something of your soul steals away still

remnants of my soul i never wished to keep

something of your soul steals me away

my soul flits away as yours runs after it

stop

i want to say

but no words come out

it's up to my soul

hark

i want to command

but no words come out

it's up to your soul

oh beatrice

explore the new horizons of the world and then come home

my soul isn't yours to chase

this world is

i remember you told me you were terrified

of dark men in basements

and bright women who are dark

and everyone in between

i remember i laughed

told you to not get too ahead of yourself

but oh beatrice, maybe i was wrong. It's oh so nearby

i remember you told me you feared you were nothing in this universe

and i told you you were everything

did you believe me?

if you did

can you make me believe me too?

it's up to our souls to decide

i remember you cried and said you were scared

no one would like you and i smiled and told you that no one matters

but oh beatrice I'm collapsing on myself

i remember you thought you'd run out of money

and i told you we cross the bridges when they come

but oh beatrice,

the bridge was never really that far away to begin with

oh beatrice

explore the new horizons of the world and then come home

just please come home

whatever you do, please come home

stop

i want to scream

but there are no words in my mouth

it's up to my soul to decide

and it's decided to chase after tomorrow

without waiting for me today

halt

i want to yell

but i can't muster a syllable

it's up to my soul to decide

and it's decided to run after its dreams and

leave me behind instead.

C'est la vie

before you read: 'c'est la vie' is French for 'that's life'! I picture this poem to one day be a simple song. One day I might find the...
